| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungi were collected from leaf lesions on Paspalum notatum Flugge from one stand each in St. Lucie, Osceola, and Orange Counties, Florida. Isolates of Sclerotinia homeocarpa F. T. Bennett (producing fast growing, sparse, flocose, white surface mycelium followed in several days by a variously colored felt-like surface layer), were separated into vegetative compatibility groups (vcg) by opposing isolates on potato dextrose agar. When a dark line or barrage formed between colonies of opposed isolates they were placed into separate vcg. Fungi belonging to the same grew together with no evidence of barrage. There were 16, 20, and 19, respectively, among the 35, 37, and 47 isolates, respectively, from St. Lucie, Osceola and Orange counties. With one exception, the vcg at each location were different from vcg at the other two locations. Members of one vcg occurred in both the Osceola and Orange county collection sites. Further studies are needed to determine how closely or distantly related these isolates of S. homeocarpa are to each other." |
