| Abstract/Contents: | "This paper reviews the definition and calculation of cost-effectiveness, and stresses that if facilities are to provide value for money they must give a high quality of sports experience, in a pleasant environment. With maximum value from facilities in mind, various aspects of joint use are reviewed, including the sharing of school facilities, shared management, and marketing and promotion. Some cost comparisons between natural and artificial surfaces are given, with costings and comments on the outdoor sports for which synthetic materials are most cost-effective. Suggestions are made for the future structure of management, with unified responsibility for managing facilities and ensuring their maximum use. An appendix gives some details of important recent projects in Nottinghamshire." |
