| Abstract/Contents: | "This paper is concerned with the measurement of the playing qualities of football pitches as part of a Sports Council funded research project being undertaken by the Sports Turf Research Institute. The main objective of this part of the project is to study how different football pitch constructions perform during use. Test equipment and techniques for the measurement of football playing qualities are described. The tests fall into three categories: (i) interactions between the ball and the surface. (ii) interactions between the player and the surface, and (iii) associated measurements, such as ground cover and soil moisture content." |
