Abstract/Contents:Considerations for erosion control are site evaluation, temporary erosion control and permanent erosion control. Evaluating a site should include considering the consequences of clearing and the nature of the surrounding property. Temporary control methods include hay bale or brush barriers, berms or dams, sediment traps, and sodding. Permanent control considerations are drainage, future maintenance and aesthetic appearance. Drainage should be capable of handling peak flow, and concrete walls and ditches should be constructed when the vertical drop exceeds three percent. Future maintenance whould be minimized by reducing slopes to a minimum. Aesthetic appearance can be maximized by the use of ornamental ground covers such as Crown Vetch, Weeping Lovegrass and Sericea lespedeza.
