Abstract/Contents:Defines sand dominated pitch "as any construction where the top 100 mm has a medium-fine sand content of above 70% by volume." Describes the intensive maintenance needed for quality sand dominated pitches and discusses the benefits of sand dominated pitch in comparison to the traditional pitch. Addresses maintenance objectives such as cover, root depth, surface condition and pitch performance, cosmetic appearance, fertilizer input, aeration, rolling, height of cut and irrigation. Explains many of the key maintenance issues associated with sand dominated pitches and mentions that "maintenance practices should aim to protect grass cover and develop deep rooting systems."
