Abstract/Contents:Describes how golf courses can become organically and environmentally friendly by techniques to manage the turf rather than using chemicals. Suggests that by using this opportunity to become more environmentally friendly it will reverse the bad image portrayed by the media. Discusses the impact of grazing by rabbits, hares and deer on golf courses and mentions that controlling the grazing of wild animals will decrease the use of chemical products. Describes alternatives for mowing with powered machinery and encourages the use of manual removal which often times requires "commitment and physical endurance on the part of the workforce." Addresses specific weed problems such as ragwort, thistles, dock, invasive grasses, Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed and suggests ways to control the problem without the use of pesticides and chemicals.
