Abstract/Contents:Describes reasons on why greens chairmen like to alter bunkers. Suggests that if a bunker is seeing too much action or too little action then it is a good idea to call in a certified golf course architect. Suggests asking yourself "Why do you have a bunker here?" and look at whether removing it will do more good then harm before starting construction. Lists three qualities of a bunker that suggests a need for repair: "bad drainage, contaminated sand, and a caved-in bunker caused by a slope that's too steep." Describes a bunkers appearance when it has a drainage problem. Lists the eight different bunker types identified by golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. States that a final decison on what bunker style to choose should be based on golf perceptions and budgets. Also states that the bunker style should be compatible with the bunkers already established on the course. Discusses the pros and cons of using a "blind bunker". Suggests ways to make the soon-to-be constructed bunker have maximum visiblity on the course. Describes the steps to bunker construction.
