Note:Correction: May 2003, volume 15, number 5, "In the March 2003 issue of Turf Central, Creswicke Country Club in Bloomington, Ill., was incorrectly identified as Crestwicke Golf Course in the "Out of the Ashes" article on page B1. Mike Rayman, superintendent at the club, recently worked through the necessary steps to recover from a major fire that destroyed the main storage building and much of the maintenance equipment with a loss of $600,000."
"An inventory taken in December 2001 was the saving factor in identifiying losses. Rayman strongly urged superintendents to update their inventories. "Insurance companies pay the actual cash value of what you had, then the remaining balance after the equipment is replaced," noted Rayman."
"Although it is surrounded by houses, the course is somewhat secluded giving it a rural feeling and includes an extensive number of trees. Rayman is particularly proud of the 12th hole, known as "Hog Alley," a reference to the hog farm that was once adjacent ot the course. Crestwicke features Penncross greens with Penn Trio tees and fairways. Greens are mowed daily at .130 with John Deere 2500 mowers. Tees are mowed three times weekly at .450 with Jacobsen Greensking mowers, and fairways are mowed three times weekly at .550 with JD 3215 mowers. The course includes a Toro Osmac system with 750 sprinkler heads."
"Crestwicke is a member of the Chicago District Golf Association and hosts several of its events and Illinois PGA tournaments. Karen Rayman manages golf shop merchandise and inventory."
