Abstract/Contents:"The National Swedish Road Administration (NSRB) sows 12-14 million square metres of grass surfaces annually. Sowing and fertilizing is done with machines specially constructed for this purpose. The so called A- and C-machines were both developed by the NSRB. To a certain extent the Finn Hydroseeder from the US is also used. The A-machine is mounted on a lorry and contains tanks for fertilizer (6000 kg) and for grass seed (575 kg). Fertilizer and seed is transported by compressed air on to the roadsides up to a range of 15 metres from the lorry. The A-machine has a capacity of 10,000 square metres per hour and is used where there is little risk for soil erosion. The C-machine and the Finn Hydroseeder are used on roadsides, where erosion may occur. A slurry of seed, fertilizer, cellulose mulch and water is sprayed on to the roadside. The tank of the C-machine contains 11,000 litres of slurry and has a capacity of 8,000 square metres per hour. Its range is 60 metres but can be extended for 120 metres with special equipment. The Finn Hydroseeder has a capacity of 6,000 square metres per hour."
