| Abstract/Contents: | "Within a year after having built the Bromsten soccerpitch the toplayer was found to be too water holding. The material was the original top soil on the site. (See Fig. 3.) This soil was taken away and after having first filled up the ground with bulk material the top soil was brought back. A drainage system was already there so it was decided to penetrate the top layer with a pto-driven tractor-mounted soil borer. About 22000 holes were made, 7.5 cm wide and 40-50 cm deep. The holes were filled with pebbles, sized 8-16 mm. After that a heavy dressing was made with 1.5 cm sand of 0-6 mm size. Soil samples were taken in November 1972. The results can be seen in Fig. 2 & 3. The sand had mowed downwards. In the middle of the southern half the top soil was only 15 cm thick laid on pure gravel. In this part it is dried up much quicker in the spring which permits and earlier start of playing. The cost was about 18 000 Sw.Cr. which is less than 3 Sw.Cr./m2. This sum includes everything. Thanks to the draining created through the drilled holes it was possible to solve a very serious problem. It should although be pointed out that this type of draining is fully effective only when the underlying layers have a good permeability." |
