| Abstract/Contents: | Identification of drainage problems and solutions are discussed for surface areas, cart paths, and sand traps. Proper surveying of a problems surface area for slope of 6'' rise (vertical) of 100' run (horizontal) is the first step mentioned regarding the drainage surface. Next, drainage channels (swales) are discussed as to function and also initial construction considerations. For cart paths identification of water runoff routes in conjunction with cart paths should be performed and followed up with swales or pipe, in which grade should be set at 1'' per 10'. Cart paths around greens and tees require special care. Raising of the cart by landform path or closer relocation to greens or tees may be necessary. For drainage of sand traps internally, trap bottoms should be higher than existing elevations, and an internal drainage filter system should be constructed using several gradations of gravel. The filter systems grade should be 1'' per 10', and a drain like from system to drainage area is required. Contouring and lipping so that water does not run into and flood traps is suggested to avoid extra maintenance problems. |
