Abstract/Contents:Suggests that the negative public perception of pesticides and the increasing regulation of the use of pesticides are "created generally by the media, environmental groups, and a few highly effective anti-pesticide activists" who employ "half-truths, innuendos and misinformation." Discusses "issues facing the lawn care industry...[that begin] with the public demanding their right to know more about pesticide use and health and safety issues...[and] could end up with serious impairments to the applicator's ability to conduct business." Concludes that "lawn care applicators must...learn to display more concern and compassion towards the public and their concern over pesticide exposure...Open lines of communication, listening to their concerns, and taking reasonable steps to minimize the public exposure to pesticides must all be employed by the lawn industry in the future if it intends to remain a viable industry. Alliances (local-state-national) of pesticide users need to be formed and become actively involved in pesticide policy formation."
