| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study on pest activity in Stenotaphrum secundatum and Paspalum notatum home lawns. Monitoring techniques for populations of Blissus insularis, Herpetogramma phaeopleralis, and Spodoptera frugiperda included: water float, soap flush, pitfall traps, and manual inspections. Common diseases were monitored visually and weed populations were mapped. Soil samples were evaluated for Nematodes. Results indicate that Blissus insularis was the primary pest with the water float method most effective for sampling. Soap flush was best for monitoring the other two common pests. Gryllopidae was found only in Paspalum notatum in Orlando, with the soap flush most effective. In Orlando Chlorphyrifos was sprayed at 8-week applications of that with pirimifos-ethyl were done. Improper mowing, over-watering and fertilizing can cause an inviting thatch layer for Blissus insularis and other diseases. |
