Abstract/Contents:Results of use of arsenate of lead when applied in both dry and spray, beginning in early spring and carried through fall were satisfactory. Tricalcium arsenate never got off the ground. One to two lbs (48% material) was applied. Soil type and chemical analysis studies were made to determine amount of arsenical required to reach toxicity in a three-year program. The 120 days protection with one application of Bensulide (Pre-san) appeared to prevent (Poa annua) germination from mid-August through mid-September. Benefin offered good-to-excellent protection from crabgrass but no comment to (Poa annua) control on one application. Po-San (a mixture of maleic hydroxide plus chlorophenol) was chosen because knotweed and clover was also showing. Po-San and benefin are mentioned only because there may be an interrelationship between spring and fall applications and effectiveness of a preemerge.
