Abstract/Contents:"Results under the conditions of this experiment indicate that appearance ratings of established mixtures were never better than the pure stand rating of the best grass in the mixture. All outstanding two and three-grass mixtures contained bluegrass or Poa trivialis. Most of these mixtures also contained fescue which established rapidly and did not decrease the appearance of mixtures as much as other grasses. No advantage was obtained by mixing 4 and 5 grasses and in most instances the resultant appearance ratings were poorer than the apearance ratings for pure stands of the same grasses. The best mixture was a combination of fescue and bluegrass. N-106 was the best experimental ryegrass and was similar in appearance to the fescue-bluegrass mixture."
