| Abstract/Contents: | Presents the benefits of subscribing to the Regional Turf Service, as published in the February 1953 issue of USGA Journal of Turf Management, including direct consultations with the Regional Director, assistance by correspondence and telephone, a periodic TurfLetter, a subscription to the USGA Journal and Turf Management, and a voice in the direction of broad-gauge turf research. Details the Regional Turf Service fees in 1953. Discusses the pros and cons of the benefits and fees, explaining that "from the very first year, the USGA has subsidized the service to keep fees within a reasonable range for a majority of golf courses. Today, the fees charged cover less than 50% of the cost of maintaining a staff to conduct the service." Describes the highs and lows of being a USGA agronomist, explaining that "one of the ways that some families cope with Green Section travel is to have the spouse serve as a part-time or full-time secretary/administrative assistant = a part of The Team." |
