Abstract/Contents: | "Both bermudagrass and zoysiagrass are usable alternatives to some of the cool season grasses in the transition zone. Cultivars of bermudagrass, however, vary in cold hardiness so the most cold hardy cultivars such as 'Midiron' should be considered for this transition zone. Zoysiagrass establishment, vigor, texture and color are three characteristics used in selection of zoysiagrass clutivars. The medium to coarse types such as 'Meyer', 'Midwest' and seeded Korean zoysiagrass are excellent in cold hardiness. Breeding and selection of new cultivars of both bermudagrass and zoysiagrass should further enhance utilization of these warm season turfgarasses in the transition zone." |
