"It is important that all parties concerned with the development, design and eventual maintenance of the proposed golf course shown hereon be aware of the duties of the golf course architect engaged to design the course. The golf course architect and/or his assistant will, on occasion, make on-site alterations in the plans and/or specifications any time it is deemed necessary and advantageous to the ultimate completed facility."
"The on-site changes are planned ahead to allow the golf course architect latitude in his function, since it is impossible to show all design elements on plans or write them legibly in the specifications."
"Areas will be designated on the plans for trees, gardens, mounds, ponds, tees and sand or grass bunkers. But the final location, grades and assessment will be done on site by the golf course architect and/or his assistant. This is our normal routine in the design of golf courses, and it has been pointed out to the management of this group many times in our meetings. Our regular visits to the site at seven to ten day intervals, are planned to accommodate the need for on-site adjustments prior to installation by the contractors to prevent incrased costs for construction or delay in the construction. The regular visits allow the 'hands on' completion of the golf course design which cannot be communicated to contractors, grounds keepers or owners until the element under construction is due for consideration. These art-type considerations cannot be communicated by drawings or specifications and must be 'out of design experience' on-site decisions."
