Abstract/Contents:Details the leaf structure of turfgrass. Explains that "the grass leaf is ideally suited for its primary functions: photosynthesis and the export of sugars (mostly sucrose) to all parts of the plant where growth or storage are occurring." Describes how leaves are "designed for controlled gas exchange" and how they undergo photosynthesis. Explains how the leaf anatomy of cool-season and warm-season turfgrasses affect photosynthetic efficiency. States that "it is evident that turfgrass leaves are not only the source of all energy available to turfgrasses but also are capable of receiving environmental cues and transmitting chemical messages to ther parts of the plant where growth patterns may be influenced dramatcially."
