Abstract/Contents:Golf course turf requires high maintenance. Fertilizer applications on these intensively used areas should promote deep root penetration and result in minimal nitrate leaching. Slow release fertilizers are not extremely soluble in cold water and therefore are not directly subject to leaching. Also, slow release fertilizers help maintain salt concentrations in the soil so roots do not become corroded.
