Abstract/Contents:Discusses how to select a grass species and cultivar that is the best fit for an environment and when to establish it. Presents a study which looked at different months of establishent, reporting that "August and September are the best months for establishing turfgrasses from seed in northern climates." Discusses the disease advantages of different cultivars, explaining that "with water restrictions in effect across the United States, using more drought-tolerant cultivars will be the highest priority for many superintendents." States that "most important from an environmental perspective would be a cultivar that required less pesticides to provide acceptable quality as a first step in an IPM program." Discusses the performances of velvet and colonial bentrgrasses, stating that "the experimental velvet and colonial bentgrasses are performing as well as creeping bentgrass under the battery of tests performed on traffic, pests and other stresses.
