Abstract/Contents:The effects of the urease inhibitor Phenylphosphorodismidate (PPD) and the effects of magnesium chloride on foliar burn and growth of Kentucky bluegrass turf were tested when treated with surface-applied urea. The results indicated that the cation Mg may have a positive effect on the reduction of ammonia volatilization with low concentration under cool conditions. Mg may increase phytotoxicity of fertilizer solutions at high concentrations in times of environmental stress. The fresh weight of clippings averaged over a 5-week period following treatment with 2% PPD increased 20-30% at the 1- and 2-lb N/1000 ft2 treatments in August and September.
