Abstract/Contents:Discusses the issue of removing trees from golf courses and presents both view points on the issue. States that "while several reasons may be given for tree removal - playability, aesthetics, restoration of the original course design - it boils down to turfgrass health. Trees deny grass of sunlight, air circulation, nutrients and water." Discusses the safety concerns involved in aging trees. Explains that "opponents may find tree removal more acceptable if new trees are planted on other areas of the course...a golf facility should have a tree management program, not a tree removal program."
