| Abstract/Contents: | SUMMARY: Bentgrass putting turf was treated annually for five years with pre- and postemergent herbicides. Endothal [7-oxabicyclo (2.2.1) heptane-2,3 dicarboxylic acid] applied in the spring at 1.25 kg ai/ha-1 provided nearly 100% development. Acrocarpous moss development was reduced by increasing nitrogen rate. Bensulide [0,0-di-isopropylphosphorodithioate-S-ester with N-(2-mercothethyl) benzenesulfonamide] reduced moss but with unacceptable control. It is suggested that endothal controls moss by desiccation of the gametophyte and sporophyte stages, reducing the ability of the gametophyte to develop new gemmae and protonema, disrupting archegonia fertilization, and by desiccation of immature and mature spore inoculum." |
