Abstract/Contents: | "In the community of Rijswijk two pitches receiving equal use had to be reconstructed. With governmental support a comparison was set up between a Cellsystem pitch and one constructed in the traditional Dutch manner. The comparison showed differences in fertilizer and maintenance requirements, those for the Cellsystem pitch being high. The technical data showed poor shear strength in the central part of the Cellsystem pitch once the grass cover was worn away. The amount of play on the Cellsystem pitch was 30% more than on the other pitch in 1981-2, and 6% more in 1982-3, but the costs per hour of play were also higher for the Cellsystem pitch, 60% and 150% respectively for the two seasons. The Cellsystem pitch was very satisfactory for play while the grass cover remained, and it was more playable during bad weather, particularly after heavy rain." |
