Abstract/Contents:"Bentgrass golf greens have become popular in the South; however, little information is available on nematode populations and their threshold levels for damage. In 1994 and 1995, nematode reports from Texas golf course samples, sent to University of Florida Nematology Laboratory or Texas Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, were collected for evaluation. The survey included 464 samples from 62 golf courses. Nematodes detected were lance (Hoplolaimus), lesion (Pratylenchus), ring (Macroposthonia), root-knot (Meloidogyne), sheath (Hemicycliophora), spiral (Helicotylenchus), sting (Belonolaimus), and stubby-root (Paratrichodorus). Ring, stubby-root, and lance were the predominant nematodes found on these golf courses. However, when correlations among turf type and nematode populations were analyzed, lance, root-knot and sheath nematodes were more common on bermudagrass than on bentgrass. This survey provides baseline information on nematode populations present in Texas golf course greens. It also provides insight into population densities which cause sufficient damage for superintendents or consultants to consider nematodes."
