Abstract/Contents:"Rhizoctonia spp. cause brown patch of tall fescue turfgrass. To investigate the temporal occurrence of Rhizoctonia spp. on tall fescue, field plots of cultivars Titan 2 and Rebel 3 were established at both Clemson and Florence. At each location, plots are being sampled monthly from May 1996 through April 1997 by randomly collecting plants from each of five plots. To date, R. solani AG 1-IA, AG 2-2IIIB, and AG 4, as well as R. zeae, R. oryzae, and several binucleate species of Rhizoctonia have been collected from both locations. From May through February, the incidence of species and subspecies has differed between locations and among months. R. solani AG 1-IA and AG 2-2IIIB and R. zeae were isolated most frequently. R. solani AG 1-IA was isolated exclusively from the Florence plots, with the greatest incidence in July, whereas 90% of the AG 2-2IIIB isolates were collected from the Clemson plots, with the greatest incidence in May. R. zeae was isolated more frequently (68%) form the Clemson plots, with the greatest incidence in May. Several binucleate species of Rhizoctonia were isolated from both locations."
