Abstract/Contents: | Describes ways to "head off fungal diseases before they can become a major problem" in sod production. States that "cultural controls are very effective for management of turfgrass diseases." Says that "pathogens are always present in turf, but they require the right temperature - and, more importantly, the right moisture levels - to cause actual disease." Points out that fungicides may be required if "lengthy periods of high humidity or rain" create conditions that support disease development. States that "chlorothalonil and mancozeb are the fungicides most commonly used in sod production" but adds that they require frequent reapplication in order to be effective. Concludes that "accurate initial diagnosis is essential" in order to control diseases effectively. |
