Abstract/Contents:Discusses ways lawns can be cared for without the use of pesticides. Explains ways to improve the lawn, including building healthy soil through fertilization with compost, mowing fairly high but frequently, irrigating deeply, but less frequently, removing excess thatch, and acknowledging that some weeds and pests will probably creep in, despite the best efforts of the homeowner. Concludes that the best way to have a "healthy lawn that's also healthy for people, pets, and wildlife" is to encourage a vigorously growing lawn.
