| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the adaptation of the Italian game of bocce to a "putting green-like" surface by Joe DeFrank of the University of Hawaii. Explains that DeFrank and his colleagues created a turfgrass court that would provide a space to play the new game while at the same time showcasing different turfgrasses, including Tifway 419, TifEagle, SeaIsle 2000 paspalum, and Emerald Zoysia. Describes the construction of this court, including how the different turf types were prevented from contaminating one another. Provides rules for DeFrank's "Hawaiian rules" bocce ball. Explains that DeFranks version of the game would be ideal for resorts or parks since it is playable by people of all ages and athletic abilities and because it can easily be played on "any turf area with links marked off." |
