| Abstract/Contents: | "The trend towards 'pay-and-play' golfing provision together with rapid growth in the attraction of major golfing tournaments has enhanced interest in golfing investments. Prestigious locations vie for major tournaments and seek to attract large scale golf resort investment to promote tourism-based economic development. While developments in such locations offer the greatest potential returns, they can also pose major threats to the communities affected. This paper assesses methodology for evaluating the impact of such golf developments, and reviews techniques for reconciling the conflicting needs of developers, planners, local communities, and visiting golfers and golf spectators through project appraisal." |
