Abstract/Contents:This article proposes changes to irrigation practices for sports turf, DIN 18035, and landscape turf, DIN 18915, to less than 25 L/m2, suggests that the current standards fail to take physical properties of soil into account and thus cause excess water usage. Detailed information concerning: the effects of soil structure, pore space, and other soil properties and their relationship to water retention and the use of water by plants are given. Also cited are background materials and recent research to support the proposed changes.
