| Abstract/Contents: | "SUMMARY: The requirements related to location and specific utilization of sports grounds which can stand wear and tear are stated .... ...(T)he so-called "model of Stuttgart" has proven its value..." in regard to maintenance for sports grounds. "The soil structure, when construction is chosen in harmony with nature, is described in detail, and the advantages of this type of construction are pointed out." Although the average user of a turf sports surface will often not give much concern as to its kind of construction, several factors that the kind of construction will have an effect on are given that will be noticed, if only indirectly, by any player. Such factors include the increased maintenance costs of the traditional layer system versus that of the close to the surface construction, which inevitably are passed on to the user in terms of increased fees. The player will notice the increased health of the turf, and appreciate its augmented playability and endurance. The close to the surface construction is also the far more environmentally beneficial. |
