| Abstract/Contents: | "Six insecticides were applied to a rough in Eisenhower Park, LI, NY on Aug 19 for control of a mixed population Oriental/Japanese/Asiatic Garden beetle grubs. The rough consisted of annual bluegrass (20%), Kentucky bluegrass (30%), bentgrass (10%) and broadleaf weeds (40%). The experimental design was a RCB with 4 replications. Individual plots were 10 ft X 10 ft. Thatch accumulation was ca. 0.25 inches compressed between the fingers. Granular materials were applied with a precalibrated Gandy 2.5 spreader. Liquid materials were premeasured in the laboratory and applied with 3 gal of water through a watering can. All liquid application were made in 2 directions within each plot. At treatment time, the following environmental conditions existed: air temp 80 d F; soil temp at 1 inch, 75 d F; soil type, gravelly loam; soil pH, 7.1; water pH, 9.2; and soil moisture, 18.9%. Posttreatment counts were taken 35 days later (Sept 24) by cutting a 1 X 10 ft strip lengthwise through each plot with a mechanical sod cutter (2.25 inch) and examining the sod and underlying soil for grubs. Species identifications were determined in the laboratory. Two ft2 samples were taken from each replicate, and mean surviving grubs determined per ft2. Mephofolan 2G and Mocap 10G at 10 lbs ai/a gave acceptable control. Oftanol 1.5G from both suppliers gave unacceptable control. No phytotoxicity was observed. Turf was in good shape with no evidence of grub damage." |
