Abstract/Contents:The two primary types of winterkill are wind desiccation kill and direct low temperature kill. The two secondary types are winter diseases and traffic during dormancy. A geotextile cover on the golf green will prevent or reduce the primary types of winterkill. The condition of the green prior to the placing over of the cover will greatly affect the cover's ability to protect the turf. Make sure the turf is good, strong, healthy turf, is correctly drained, and if possible, is twice as long as normally in height; also apply a fungicide prior to placing the cover on. The protective cover is good for the turf and is an economic asset as well.
