| Abstract/Contents: | "The experiment was conducted on the right side of #10 fairway at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Lexington, KY (Richland Co.). There was no measurable thatch accumulation. At treatment time, soil temp at 3 inch was 53 d F, air temp was 45 d F. The fairway was Kentucky bluegrass. The larvae were third instars. The experimental design was a RCB with 4 replicates. Individual plots were 6 X 20 ft. Liquid applications were made with a constant pressure CO2 sprayer (35 psi) equipped with four LF3 80d nozzles at a rate of 100 gal of water per acre. The Mocap and Oftanol granular materials were applied with a cyclone rotary broadcast spreader. The Triumph granular was applied with a perforated container. No rainfall occurred within 24 h after treatment, 0.05 inches occurred 5 days after treatment. Surviving larvae were sampled 42 days after treatment for the spring count, and 161 days after treatment for the fall count. Sampling was accomplished by cutting five 7 X 7 X 3-inch deep plugs into each 6 X 20 ft plot. All of the materials tested gave excellent control of the spring larvae. Only Oftanol 2F gave significant reductions of Japanese beetle larvae in the next generation. All of the materials gave significant reduction of masked chafer larvae in the next generation. There was no phytotoxicity." |
