| Abstract/Contents: | Introduces the Bethpage Green Course Project and lists its primary objectives as stated by Drs. Jennifer Grant and Frank Rossi. Displays the six separate treatments which were used during the project. States that turf which is untreated by pesticides does not perform well and discusses the outcomes of these greens after each year. Suggests that when moving away from using pesticides, the process must be gradual. Suggests that older course which want to switch to non-pesticide treated greens will have to regrass big areas of turf to be able to have newer turfgrass varieties. Proposes integrated pest management as "a very effective means of reducing pesticide usage". States that more staff members will be required when switching to no pesticide turfs. |
