Abstract/Contents:Provides several tips to keep turf healthy when dealing with extreme weather. Discusses furnishing a suitable growing environment for turf. Suggests "removing trees and other vegetation that impede air movement and compete with turf for available sunlight, moisture, and nutrients". Proposes good surface and subsurface drainage as a key factor in maintained suitable greens. States that when dealing with snow and ice removal, removal too early can cause great damage to putting greens. Details actions superintendents are taking in order to monitor turf canopy and air temperatures. Lists the most effective procedures for successful recovery of turf from winter stress and injury. Describes actions taken to aerate flooded areas on the course. Details adjustments made to mowers during 2003 to increase turf quality. Discusses superintendents' political actions taken in result to demands of reducing pesticide and water use on courses.
