Abstract/Contents:Discusses the role of golf course superintendents before the start of the golfing season. States that the most "notable mission is restarting the course's irrigation system, which in most cases has been sitting idle all winter." Suggests that "to avoid damage to equipment and piping, water must be allowed to flow slowly, especially with larger systems. When quickly pushed along by a blast of water, air moving through piping systems causes intense hammering and damages the pipe system and its attached irrigation equipment."
