Abstract/Contents: | Aerification under sod can and does destroy soil structure in the cultivation zone, thus temporarily counterbalancing the physical benefits given from a vigorous root system and earthworm activity. However aerification is of benefit to compacted soils which allows improved water and air movement into the root zone. There is now the question of the desirability of aerification on well structured soils below turf without an extensive organic layer accumulation. |
