| Abstract/Contents: | A discussion of two turf maintenance systems with regard to the use of sand to minimize soil compaction. A thirst for water retention is quenched by the Purr Wick and PAT (Prescription Athletic Turf) systems. Purr Wick is a plastic lined sand root zone. Discussed, regarding water retention by this system are putting greens; construction modification rate of water movement and fluctuations of reservoir levels and evaluations. The PAT systems consists of plastic sheeting, but also suction pumps sand, collection drains, pest, vermiculite, moisture sensors and controllers. The cost of this system is 1/3 of artificial surfaces and 3 high schools, 5 universities and 3 pro teams (Redskins, Dolphins, and Broncos) have suction pumping systems. |
