| Abstract/Contents: | Turf species of ryegrass, Kentucky blue, and annual bluegrass were evaluated based on their test results for color, disease resistance, and winter survival. The ryegrass varieties had all survived 2 normal winters with no damage. The fine-leaved types had a dark green color unlike the wide-leaved coarse types, therefore it blended well with Kentucky bluegrass varieties. The differences in density readings and tolerance against Helminthosporium showed Delta, Park, Plush, and Prato having damage. Mixtures of bluegrass with creeping red fescue reduced the amount of this specific disease damage. Endothall and bensulide were applied to Kentucky bluegrass contaminated 25-50% with annual bluegrass for control of re-establishment and reinvasion of the annual bluegrass. Results show no reestablishment after bensulide treatments, and a reduction in annual bluegrass after endothall treatments. Be cautious, reseeding cannot help after - bensulide so start a control program before the perennial bluegrass is severely damaged. |
