Describes Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) systems, explaining that "with dropping prices, increasing usefulness of the technology and growing competition for golfers among courses, GPS is becoming more common." Explains that "GPS can...help rangers monitor trouble spots to speed pace of play and get more rounds into a day." Discusses tournament software, which can "literally shave hours needed to organize and prepare the materials for a full field of players down to minutes." Discusses electronic tee sheet, which "allow golf shop staffers to quickly and easily book tee times, change bookings, reserve blocks of time for special events and print out daily or even hourly tee sheets in seconds." Describes yield management software, explaining that "yield management is the practice of taking a close look at patterns of golf course usage, taking steps to boost play in under-used times and charging premium prices for the most popular times. Operators have been doing that on an ad-hoc basis for years, but some of today's computer programs can essentially do it for you." Discusses e-mail marketing, explaining that "e-mail marketing is a computer version of traditional direct mail, but faster, cheaper and more easily customizable." Also discusses how wireless irrigation can make a superintendent's job easier. |
