Abstract/Contents:Describes the process of golf course design, beginning with inspiration. Explains that "a course we've played recently, a landscape photograph in a magazine, a certain landform or tree we may see while driving, or studying and analyzing other courses, all contribute to our designs." Discusses formative experiences of early designers Donald Ross and Alister McKenzie. Describes the role of the site in designing a golf course. Details theories of golf green design, including size, shape and placement. Discusses tee complex design, noting the factors that can affect placement of tees. Concludes that "our end goal is to present the golfer with eighteen challenging, dramatic, memorable, and unique golf holes, where every golf shot must be thouroughly analyzed before it can be executed."
