Abstract/Contents: | Presents the problem of moss invasion on putting greens. Provides details of the products Junction and TerraCyte, including composition and dosage used for control of moss. Details the components used in moss control experiments at Penn State in 2002 and 2003. States the purpose of the summer experiment was to evaluate the "performance of several products in the heat of summer". States the use of iron sulfate, Dawn Ultra dishwashing detergent, Ivory diswashing detergent with hydrogen peroxide, TerraCyte and Junction for evaluation of each product. Finds that Dawn Ultra, Ivory with hydrogen peroxide, and Junction were impotent against controlling moss. Also finds that these products were not harmful to the putting greens. Results indicate that iron sulfate and TerraCyte were the most effective treatments with 90-95% (dosage 0.4 and 0.6 lb. iron/1000 sq. ft) and 78% (8lb/1000 sq. ft.) moss control, respectively. Results from the fall trial indicate TerraCyte (dosage 8lb/1000 sq. ft) was the best source of moss control with the least amount of turf damage followed by iron sulfate (0.2 lb. iron/ 1000 sq. ft.). The most effective control was found to be Junction (5.0 oz/ 1000 sq. ft) but little yellowing occuring on the green. |
