| Abstract/Contents: | Investigates water usage on golf courses and discusses the problems met when trying to determine water allotment for golf courses as a whole. Presents five different scenarios dealing with water usage. Suggests that regulators, scientists, golf course designers, irrigation manufactures and golf course owners need to have a better relationship for defining a safe-yield. Defines safe-yield as "a long-term regional balance between groundwater withdrawals and natural and artificial recharge". Suggests that the Department of Water Resources must be able to set the safe-yield where water is not being used inefficiently but also so that golf courses can still make a profit. Describes several technological advancements which will help with improving water efficiency on the golf course. Suggests improving communication with the public about the water situation will help them understand the courses conservation efforts in order to help them conserve also. Lists concerns dealing with current and future regulations on water usuage. Lists perspectives given by the Department of Water Resources at the USGA Conference. |
