| Abstract/Contents: | An important use of plant growth retardants is to control grass growth and reduce the number of mowings along highways (3,5). Extensive investigations with maleic hydrazide at the Rhode Island Agricultural Experiment Station have shown that proper treatment with this chemical can effectively retard the growth of grasses without being detrimental to the attractiveness of roadside turf (2). Despite the apparent effectiveness of MH, proper timing (5) and weather conditions (4) still present problems. This experiment involved four chemicals (two experimental) used alone, and in certain combinations at different rates (1) to determine their effectiveness in retarding grass growth. |
