Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the need for a partnership between golf courses and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service. States that "the basic scientific research needed to understand the fundamentals of plant health and pest biology is risky, expensive and long term, frightening prospects for profit-motivated businesses and groups that depend on benefactors for support. A large organization without obvious economic motivation, namely, the USDA's ARS, would be better suited to pursue biological research." Discusses the USDA's budget, and emphasizes the lack of funding for turfgrass research within the ARS. Urges readers to support the Turfgrass Research Initiative. |
