Abstract/Contents:Discusses the effect of high temperatures on turfgrass. States that "turfgrass leaf/plant temperature is governed by three major components: net radiation, convection/conduction and transpiration." Emphasizes the importance of air movement "as a cooling mechanism for turfgrass plants" and presents syringing as a possible way to cool a turfgrass plant. Describes syringing as "a light application of water to the turf in order to prevent wilt and reduce the canopy temperature." Concludes that "syringing applied under wilting conditions has a dramatic effect on canopy temperature; while under non-limiting soil moisture conditions, syringing has liitle to minor impact on lowering canopy temperature. However, it is important to note, as ambient temperatures increase, the effects of syringing also increase."
