| Abstract/Contents: | "Considering the requirements to be made of a grass sward and based on the publications on turf as well as on our own experience, the properties of the fertilizers needed for the development of turf as well as their influence on the characteristics of the sward were examined. As a result, the quality criteria of the fertilizers for lawn, listed individually, are essentially as follows: nutrient ratio biased towards N, with regard to its physiological effects, weak acid reaction, adequate nutrient content, adequate duration of action and ease of dispersal. In order to select, from the variety of products on the market, products displaying these properties, which, in our opinion, are essential, it is suggested to establish these recommendations as standard requirements." Outlining the requirements of turfgrass roots, and the various influences that fertilizers have upon them, the results from tests performed on fertilizers (herbicide/fertilizer combinations, organic fertilizers and synthetic/organic fertilizers) are compiled to propose a standard by which all fertilizers should be manufactured. |
